Anonymous asked: Hi Loni! I have a 4 month old little boy who just started going through the sleep regression like you said Rowdy was. Just wanted see if you had any suggestions or anything that you are following which is helping you get through this with him? My lil one was such a great sleeper before and now it's completely changed.. what's your views on using a pacifier or the cry it out method? Can't wait for the ebook to come out!!!!! :)
ah welcome to the sleep regression club haha, Rowdy is only just coming out of it now! It was a good 7-8 weeks of up and down sleep/fussy baby. he is back to sleeping 9-10 hrs straight but hasn’t hit his 12 hr stretches back yet, but the future looks bright. :) things that helped me is to just comfort them, don’t be scared of creating new habits cause if they already know how to sleep during the night i feel they will go back to that. when he wakes up in the night make sure to keep it dark and quiet and if you need to change him use a soft night light or really us mums are pretty much pros at nappy chafers and can do that shit with our eyes closed in the dark, always put him back to bed awake or drowsy so he learns to falls asleep without your assistance. i always put Rowdy in a sleep suit that is nice and tight which he loves and makes him feel safe and secure, make sure they are warm enough. you can try a pacifier but if you are BF and feel he is hungry defiantly feed him, they are going through a huge growth spurt and need the calories, with the night feeds if you LO is sensitive ti wind in his belly always try to get a burp up other wise you will be awake again when he is uncomfortable due to sore tummy or needing to fart. feed him more during the day to get in all those extra calories and so he understands that day time is feed time and night time is sleep time. taking him out in the natural elements like sunshine, breeze, trees, laying on the ground together, the morning and afternoon sunlight helps adjust their internal body clocks to understand the difference between day and night. keep a good routine in place bath, boob, bed. make it calm/dull lighting before bed. try and get a wake up time the same time every morning and make a big deal about it (so say ‘good morning cheeky monkey’ “did you have a good sleep’ ‘helloooooo’ in high pitched/happy voice so he knows that this is wake up morning time and its time to get up!. I feel this helps adjust their body clock also. (its like when we wake up to an alarm every day at the same time, if the alarm didn’t go off one morning our body clock would still more than likely wake us up around that same time because we are so usto it). try and get him to take 2- 3 naps a day, a tired rover stimulated baby is a not good for anyone!
and for you, make sure you can rest when you can. eat plenty of good food and liquids. and get outside as much as you can even if you are tired it makes you feel 100xs better.
and remember no matter how bad the night is, the sun will always rise x
